2009
The Foundation ran school holiday programmes in April at Siyazingisa Primary School, in July at Nomlinganiselo Primary School and again in September/October at Nomlinganiselo Primary School. The aim of the school holiday programmes was that all the classes had to train learners with something they would be able to showcase to everyone on the last day. Programmes run were: Recorder, Drama, Kwaito, Fabric painting, Traditional dance, Marimba, Sport and Peer education. The idea is to keep the youths not attending any of our camps or outings occupied.
53 children went on a hike in the Silvermine Reserve and another 25 children went on a hike in the Cecelia Forest. 108 children visited the Cape Town Traffic Services’ Road Safety Education programme over 2 days for a tour of the centre. As a closing off event, a picnic was arranged for 98 children.
We ran two 3 day camps during July for 110 children each at Mooihawens Youth Centre in Betty`s Bay with the theme “Youth at Risk”. ABF staff was supported by Sandiswe and Bonge from Love Life and ABF volunteers: Lillie, Lilian, Laura, Motema, David, Joel and Aaron. The highlight was the visiting Grammy Award Winning Pacific Boys Choir from the USA.
In early December we ran another two 3 day camps for 110 children each in Grabouw and in Franschoek. Another 400 children were treated to a picnic with lunch and dessert at Wynberg Swimming Pool.
Another group of children has been invited to attend an Outward Bound Leadership camp during mid December.
